Innkeeper's Tax

Innkeeper’s Tax is a pass through tax paid by the party renting the accommodations. The Innkeeper then forwards that tax on to the Morgan County Treasurer once a month.

Innkeeper’s Tax is a levy tax on every person engaged in the business of renting or furnishing, for periods of less than thirty (30) days, any room or rooms, lodgings, or accommodations located in Morgan County, Indiana.

The innkeeper must pay taxes on a percentage of this to the Treasurer of Morgan County by the 20th of each month. The Morgan County Innkeeper’s tax rate is eight percent (5%) and is used to promote and or encourage conventions, visitors, and tourism within the county; and for the development of a county park, a county fairground, or a county promotion.

Further details may be obtained by viewing IC 6-9-3-4 and the Morgan County Council Ordinances 1-2-30. General information can be found at the Indiana Department of Revenue.
