Demand Notices & Delinquent Taxes
Each year in mid to late July, the Treasurer’s Office issues Demand Notices for delinquent personal property taxes and penalties from the previous year. Taxpayers are given 60 days to make payment.

If payment is not made within 60 days:

  • The Treasurer is required by law to certify the unpaid taxes to the Circuit Court of Morgan County.

  • Once certified, the debt becomes public record and may be accessed by individuals or agencies who review court records—potentially impacting your credit rating.

  • In some cases, a collection agency may be used to recover the unpaid taxes.
